Engineer Tal Golesworthy took matters into his own hands when he was told that, due to the fact that he suffered from Marfan Syndrom, he needed an urgent mechanical valve implant, has decided to make his own, custom made one. He use rapid prototyping technology to refine and produce a perfect 3D model of his aorta. The team used the standard medical polymer (PET) and the final product weighed around 5g. The entire process took a little under 2 years. The implant was performed in 2004 and since them 23 people have used the same design in their implants too.
Now that’s a true engineering mind. He wanted something good, he made one himself.
