Service Charge in Kuwait V2.0!!!

If you read my previous article about it, you might like to read this too as well…

Apparently the false rumor that “Service charge is illegal” has been spreading around like crazy without confirming it by calling 135…

So thanks to Mark’s post in his blog “More expired food at Sultan Center”, “ilsul6ana” provided an Al-Watan Newspaper article that describes the rule (with the reference number… law number… or whatever number)…

As explained (more like transulated and shorted), the service charge should be a percentage of the total cost of the ordered food which goes somewhere between %10 and %20…

So the scam is, restaurants pre-define the service charge (lets say 10KD) instead of calculating the service charge by the cost of what you order (lets say you ordered for 10KD, the charge should be 1KD~2KD)…

For those who are shy to call “135” please refer to Al-Watan’s article…

Here’s the 248am related post, and here’s the Al-Watan related article (IN ARABIC).

  1. meh… me thinks if one going for a classy restaurant then one would actually have the money to pay for the extra 10 % …but heyy thats me 😛

  2. well yea… but they’re using the service charge in a wrong way… the pre-define the amount of money to pay as a service charge in a fixed matter instead of deciding whats the actual service charge after you order your food by calculating the allowed percentage…

the philipino guy could go and say “Sir, the minimum service charge is %10 of the whole order” instead of “Sir, the minimum service charge is 10KD”
