Apple is recommending the use of Anti-Virus!! (UPDATED OLD NEWS)

I knew this day would come… Now, Mac users can’t say “Mac OSX is virus free”…

According to AppleInsider, Apple recommends using VirusBarrier, McAfee and Symantic Norton softwares to protect the user… Seems like the “Get a Mac” ad about being more secured than Windows will fade :P…

This might not be an important call to start using anti-viruses for Mac, but it’s a call to warn Mac users that the poopism is coming…

Well, this should stop most of Kuwaiti Mac fan wannabies from saying “Mac is hackless… Mac can’t get infected” thing… It’s true its much less vulnerable than Windows… But won’t be for long…

I’ll just laugh my ass off when I see someone bringing his Mac to “DIGITS” in Kuwait (Marina Mall) because he\she\it got infected with a virus and the people in there wouldn’t know how to cure it 😛

And according to Gizmodo, Mac only updated an old news… Which is like “We told you a year ago to get yourself an anti-virus and we’re saying it again just to remind you… So you wouldn’t say (You didn’t tell us)” :P… more or less :P… j/k

Here’s the new picture of what Mac update and Mac’s old news…

And here’s Mac’s “HT2550” which, for some reason, the article isn’t there (But it’s there when I googled it… You can google “HT2550” and see the first result, click on it and its “We can’t find the article you’re looking for.” thing…

Bottom line:
Apple just freeked out everyone with a little update to their old thing (It feels weird to ROFL over 1-year-old news)… Thanks blasha for pointing at the Gizmodo link, which in a way or another, proved that they’ve been telling you guys to get the anti-viruses a year ago (Though you wouldn’t need it… Yet)

  1. if its because the links I provided doesn’t seem dependable, here’s the BBC link:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7760344.stm

if its because you never faced a mac security issue yet, browse my blog for pwn2own and the dns vulnerability issue

if its because you never faced an issue on mac at all (which i doubt you didn’t and i’m sure you wouldn’t refer to this point), here’s an interesting thing
    http://blasha.com/2008/10/my-mac-grey-screen-of-death.html

if its because mac is really secured, it might be in these years because no one cared enough to write malwares for it, but soon they will, and they’re starting…

yet then again, buying that fact or not wouldn’t change anything… its happening

  2. although, i’m against mac in every way possible (sorry mac users, i can’t help it). this might be bad news to linux users as well.
as most true linux users know, part of the mac kernel is BSD. if the BSD futures are used by the attacks, linux might not be out of danger yet.
but then again, it’s a mac, and the vulnerabilities were probably caused by apple LOL

  3. Hacking shouldn’t be related to computer viruses. A lot of Mac-Hacks have been done around the world but until this day as I can recall there hasn’t been a single virus on OS X.

I presume you know the theory that security software companies are promoting their anti-virus applications by spreading viruses and offering their services as solutions. I kinda lean to that theory and think that if I install an anti-virus application on my Mac it will simply attract viruses.

I’m more than happy with my virus-free environment.

And by the way, Digits (and even iCity) and their so-called technicians are @-holes who don’t know cr@p about what they are selling. I enjoy seeing their stupid and hopeless solutions to the silliest inquires at their store. 🙂

It’s nothing but an urban legend (Even though I kinda believe in it)… So I’d like you to provide a link or two to prove such theory so I could believe it as well

    Loolykinn’s reply:
Enjoy it while it last… soong it’ll be as virusable as windows

you don’t need to censor your words y’know… you can swear the way you like 😛

  5. *bump*
i second that opinion (all of it).. i guess not all mac users are click’n drool. especially the part about i-city.. must do it sometime 🙂

  6. oh boy… seems like they’re digging old news…

thanks blasha for clearing this out, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t recommend such thing which they did…

even though it was back in 2007… Then again why would Mac update such news anyways? Whether they ran outta new news or they really needed to push people to read\do such thing…

    but still… updated old news…

  7. Well, For me I didn’t use any anti-viruses application from 1993 till now.. I had it on windows but it always have been deactivated… Now I’m using Mac for more than 3 years without any anti-viruses applications no problems at all! .. thanks for sharing

  8. Dr.Jassim:
Thats something I’ve been trying to tell people; if you know what you’re doing you probably wont need an anti-virus in whatever system you’re working on…

    I do need an anti-virus since I mess around every now’n’then 😛

    Thanks for dropping by n_n
