Ubuntu 8.04 on Flash Drive adventure!!!

I’ve been trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 in my Flash Disk without success for 2 days.

I boot my CD, let it format my Flash Drive ENTIRELY, let it write GRUB on /sdb… DOESN’T WORK!!!

I edited GRUB’s menu.lst and changed (hd1,0) to (hd0,0) and it worked till the log in screen. It just HANGS after I log in.

I don’t know what to do now… Any help? Any one???

I’m considering installing Xubuntu since my laptop’s hardwares sucks…

  1. on login screen, press button CTRL+ALT+F2 to enter virtual terminal. Type username and password to log and type sudo su to become root. On root prompt type sudo killall gdm, this command will kill your gdm, because USB Flash or SD Card can’t run well with ubuntu on it(GDM Problem!). After kill the gdm, you cant type exit to become common user(not root), now on common user type startx to enter your Ubuntu…..finish!

To shutdown your ubuntu, you can type sudo shutdown -P now on terminal

You can visit my Ubuntu tutorial on andrelukmana.web.id

    Thanks!
