E3 Summary Xbox 360 Slim and Kinect review

Hi!

Resident Game and Grub Critic, Zen Overlord, is here to put a recap on what essentially happened in the world of Video Games at E3!

First up, we will be looking at the key note of what we understand happened at the Microsoft conference..

The Box and Toy

First, I’d like to talk about Kinect, the new Hype machine introduced by Microsoft at E3…

Kinect is a “controller-free gaming and entertainment experience”… So, Whats so interesting about this little gadget? Is it just another Super Scope or a Virtual boy or just another Eye toy? Nay Nay I say!

The new Kinect is a Gesture accepting and vocal command understanding Gadget… Added to that is the cutting edge technology of object recognition! to better explain it… Think of it as the visual screen from minority report with a cross over of the Starship Enterprise computer sans the warp speed :p

I see an interesting future for this little gadget… But only if they allow to flourish out side of the gaming capabilities and make it more integrated into the console it self.

Secondly, I’d like to introduce you to the “New” Xbox 360 Slim as it is currently popularly called…

Smaller, Quieter and more powerful then the former Versions. This baby is sleek and power efficient, and not to mention that it is “Red Ring” Proof. That’s right boys and girls! No more worrying about whether it’s gonna break or not. did i mention it comes with a “Free” wireless already pre-installed? also comes with a new *At least to me* type of media connector called TOSLINK S/PDIF optical audio connector, allowing for digital audio and wireless networking without the need for an external adapter! dont know how that work out, but hey! it’s pretty damn interesting if you ask me!

Aside from that… i believe that we have say something very important… While this is nice, cutting edge technology… it’s absolutely useless if no one is going to buy it…

which is what i am looking at for according to the polls recently conducted at Gamefaqs.com… at the time of writing this article, the amount of people who where interested in in buying or have already ordered it where a combined number of 6021 people.. meanwhile, the amount of people of who had voted “Not interested, I’m happy with my other game system” came at 24757 and “I’ll probably buy a slim one if my old one breaks” brought a total vote count of 16951 , together they brought a combined number of 41708.

while this data talks about the current state of people looking at Microsoft, it can be summarized from the polls that xbox slim is too late. Even with the red eye of death threat removed and adding a free wireless and less power consumption. it simpley came too late… or did it?

while i hate to say this, we could be seeing a mass migration from PS3 to Xbox 360 Slim…

Well, i think that’s a good coverage for the time being! I’ll be posting my recap of Sony and Nintendo in the next few days so please stay tuned =D

  1. A nice short concise and balanced event summary. thanks.
looking forward to the other two (although Nintendo’s event probably sucked).
