If only Sony (And Apple) would follow Microsoft’s approach…
So Microsoft talked with the guys who unlocked Windows Phone 7 mobiles to discuss homebrew apps implementation where the jailbreakers removed the tool.
Now that Geohotz joked about Buying a Windows Phone 7 (Obviously for the jailbreak intention), Microsoft offered them to send a Windows Phone device to develop on.
Instead of firing things up and having a fight in court, keep them closer and discuss things that would benefit both ends wants.
This is just Microsoft trying to get free publicity by trying to look “cooler” than its competitors especially since its trying to get more people to buy the phone.
Sony has a right to worry about software piracy, while I may disagree with the methods they took to protect themselves, remember that in the end it is a company that must remain profitable to keep investors and stock holders happy.
“But I bout the system and I have the right to do whatever I want to it even if the EULA says otherwise.”
Wrong. If you were one of the billions of people that don’t read the EULA but clicked agree then you are legally bound to those terms.
With that said, If your intentions are just to customize your systems as much as you want, then I am in support of that. I personally use the custom firmware on the PSP to run a multitude of homebrew apps and I still buy original games. Yet there are millions of other who just pirate because “insert excuse about an evil company that doesn’t care about the people and just want their money here”. Those people are the ones that ruin everything.
that’s your opinion and you certainly entitled to one.
here is mine though: you buy it. you own it. simple.
besides, what a lot of people don’t realize is that the eula isn’t in effect until they actually click on “agree”. If someone buys a PS3 and hacks it right off the bat, they would not be in violation of the eula since they never actually signed it. The same can be said about second-hand systems.
but in any case, we all know that eulas are a steaming load of fresh excrement. Some of that excrement is so unrealistic that they’re unenforcible (i.e they get thrown out of court).
haha funny you didn’t mention keeping end users happy.. did I mention that I wont be buying anything from sony if other alternatives are available?
screw sony.
this is not a personal attack against you ketsune, I enjoy your posts too much for that. it’s the concept of controlling people that gets me really ticked off!
in the end, the only thing keeping me from becoming a contributing pirate is the fact that I’m a muslim. only that.
This approach sort of proves that they are actually reaching out to their customers and working things together. This, and the Kinect hack (And stating they’re not going to sue hackers).
That, and a Microsoft representative at BarCamp 2010 was actually willing to sit down and discuss your beef with Microsoft and come up with a solution.
LOL no. they know that they’re phone is screwed if it doesn’t get jailbreaked/Devs working it. WP7 won’t reach iOS/Android popularity.
Whatever, troll…
