Long story short,
Some Italian 15 years old kid suffered from Duchenne syndrome where his heart muscles have been degrading and all. This syndrome doesn’t allow him to be in a heart transplant waiting list because his new heart will be degraded too (I think, I’m no medical guy here).
So, they stuffed this 4cm long permanently artificial inside the left ventricle and what they’ve done should give the kid 20~25 years of “normal life”.
The device is powered by some battery in the kid’s belt which can be charged over the night.
As much as I want to make fun of this event, hats off the brave attempt into installing a permanent artificial heart.
I wonder what will happen 10 years from now…
