Make Pictures X-Pire Online

How often have you logged on to Facebook or any other social networking site and, after seeing some of the pictures, started to wonder ” WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING!”.
Or even worse: “WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING !” when you posted up a picture in the past.

Lets face it, there are some pictures we have online which we aren’t proud of. Sometimes those pictures spread around the internet and then all of a sudden BAM you start of your next job interview trying to convince your interviewer that the drunk dude on College Humor is just a look alike.

Now if only there was a way to make pictures like disappear after a while. Almost like there is an expiry date on them.

Thats where X-pire comes in. Created by Dr Backes of Saarland University X-pire basically encrypts your images and adds a date stamp before you upload the images on Facebook or any other social site.

Images encrypted with X-pire can only be viewed using a browser add on, FireFox only so far, and the image is viewable only as long as the expiration date has been passed.

The Application charges a monthly fee. When the user stops paying the images do not automatically expire, the user just is no longer able to encrypt any more images.

  1. until someone breaks the encryption or reverse engineers the add-on – which will probably happen in a few days given that there is enough interest.
