Microsoft’s JPEG XR (Also known as HD Photo) standard, according to CNET’s article, provides some useful advantages over JPEG…
* It offers a great dynamic range between darkest dark and brightest bright (The span between’em)
* It offers double quality for the same size, or half size for the same quality
* Faster to zoom in and out since its easy to decode a portion of the JPEG XR image…
Microsoft already released some HD Photo support for both Photoshop and Mac OSX… Let’s just hope they release some Linux support soon
