Nvidia officially named Fermi architecture GPU’s
Posted by GH0S1_R33P0R in News, SCIENCE!!, Technology, Uncategorized, Video games on February 3, 2010
Team green (aka Nvidia) finally announced today yesterday the names of their upcoming Fermi architecture Graphics cards in their Facebook page

The GTX 480 and the GTX 470 are the cards we are all looking forward to based on the Fermi GF100 chip
Nvidia hasnt skipped the GeForce 3xx series as they already released a GeForce 310 which is basically an OEM only re-badge of the GeForce 210 but they just went ahead and made their next high end series the GeForce 4xx and completely burned off the 3xx series
no news on when its actually gonna be release or how powerfull its gonna be, however there are some old tech demo’s of the Fermi Gpu’s and chances are its gonna be DX11
WD TV review
Posted by GH0S1_R33P0R in Uncategorized on January 25, 2010
was at avenues a while back and i was looking around the electronics section in carrefour when i saw a WD TV and a WD TV mini. i decided to buy it yesterday and post up a sort of review of it along with a WD MyBook 1TB external drive

when i opened the box for the MyBook i noticed how small the drive really was and how glossy it is

i took a pic of it with a quarter KD bill for reference so you guys can have an idea of its size.

As for the glossiness it reflects pretty much anything , however it is highly prone to smudges from finger prints so thats a negative.
The MyBook is supposed to come with drivers that install themselves, but it took too damn long for vista to search for the drivers
i clicked on cancel then i opened the WD smart ware according to the manual.
i decided not to bother installing anything on a second thought as i was just going to copy paste files to the hard drive instead of doing an automated backup or something like that.
heres a screeny of the files copying window so you guys can see the speed and judge by yourselves.
I decided to take advantage to the time it would take for copying the files to install the WD TV itself

when i opened that it was smaller than the drive and had the same glossy coat.

The remote was also tiny and fitted in my pocket being about the length of an ipod classic but thinner.
first complaint about the WD TV is that the rubber stands aren’t factory pre-installed and took me a couple of minutes to place using tweezers (those things are TINY)

i put the cd in my pc to see if it had anything worth interest and first thing it did was play a vid showing installation instructions(dunno anybody who would honestly need that but its a nice touch).
Demo media was nothing interesting TBH all it did was make the t.v. look pretty, however it did come with some jpegs that i could use for my pc’s wall paper.
I rememberd that i had some music in my flashdrive so i decided to play it on the wd tv. Quality was good however i wish it had a visualizer or something to keep the t.v. from looking boring.
when i plugged in the WD drive the WD TV restarted so looks like the usb ports arent hot pluggable. minor annoyance tbh
it played all the video’s i had from all formats including .m2ts (aka bluray) and .iso’s. Note however the .iso was a dvd rip of Machine head’s elegies and the WD TV skipped the title screen and went straight to the live show , disallowing me to go to the special features of the dvd.
Image quality was pretty good and i didnt notice anything wrong with the picture or smoothness of play, however don’t expect bluray disk quality or anything like that. Also when u pause for a while it takes a bit to play again as it reads straight from the disk drive .
Despite the very few teeny issues i found I would recommend this to anybody who would like to watch his media (legally acquired i hope) on his t.v. and at just less than 30 kd its a steal compared to media center extenders.
OiNK Found NOT Guilty?!
Posted by DarkWolf80s in Uncategorized on January 19, 2010

You may or may not be familiar with “OiNK” a famous private torrent tracker site for downloading music that’s similar to Waffles or What.cd has been shutdown for two years due to prosecutors were claiming that the admins had a dishonest intention by making a profit through music file sharing. Recently, the court room announced the victim Allen Elis, founder and admin of OiNK.cd “Not Guilty” and that today he was walks away a free man. Does this prove that file sharing or pirating sites harm major film or music industries? No,not really. A study from the University of London has provided the courtroom a clear evidence stating that file-sharing or P2P sites do not harm the entertainment business at all. On the contrary, they actually help increase sales. Clearly, this redefines the statement “Do pigs fly?” In this case of OiNK; yes they DO!

Alive 2010

Today at a venue in Mishref was supposed to mark the long awaited return of the Kuwaiti rock scene. The weather was heavenly, the stage was gorgeous and the place looked like a dream. In the audience, the boys and girls had their hair done and were wearing their nicest “rocker” clothing trying to look like they fit in. Even important figures in the old scene were in attendance, ranging from the promoter that brought everything out into the forefront Tazz, to guys like Katoolo, Dragon, Sam, Sarj and Salim that have all done their part in helping out in a majority of shows in the past. Even the legendary troublemaker Scarface was in attendance, sans his make up and over the top behavior.
The Show started a little later than anticipated, with a rundown of the rules of the show which pretty much boiled down to: Don’t have fun. Then a couple of words from the sponsors and organizers, which seemed very out of place. Finally after a humorous introduction from one of the more entertaining members of the crew we were off with Bloodstone.
Bloodstone was not a bad band, they had their issues but all in all, they were quite entertaining. The next act, Hammad and Moe however, were probably an act that should have been saved for last. Uproariously funny and very charismatic, the duo charmed the audience with their renditions of famous sounds, improvised lyrics and crazy antics. Hammad was like a Kuwaiti Maz Jobrani, while Moe (also known as Sid by his closest friends) strummed along with his guitar and singing along with, or around Hammad.
What came next however was both unexpected yet typical of the Rock scene here in Kuwait.
The show got canceled by the venue holders.
Everything seemed like it was going to be a day that would set the stage for the days to come.
However from the beginning, familiar features of the old rock scene started to appear. First thing that started to show up were all the rules; Don’t scream, don’t dance, don’t stand up. The authoritarian tone didn’t help but a majority of the audience didn’t care, those that did, were ignored. Yet things seemed to be working out fine until the extremely long break that suddenly appeared.
After the announcement of the cancellation, rumors immediately began to spread, each one slightly different than the rest but pointing the finger at the venue themselves pulling out at the last minute. Some stated that the ministry showed up and was not happy, others repeated the much quoted excuse of “the show was too professional”, while the more reliable sources said that the venue decided that “the audience was difficult to control”
Whatever the reasons were, it was a fun day with a great atmosphere. This is simply a right of passage for anyone that decides to venture into the “cursed” rock scene here in Kuwait without learning from the mistakes of their predecessors.
For the rest of us old timers though, the cancellation brought back a very nostalgic feel to it, making the show feel genuine and home grown.
