I should make a serious business out of this soon =P

Well, Macbook’s power adapters are awesome because you don’t have to worry about kicking the wire causing the whole thing to travel outta your room\apartment through the window. So here’s a way to prevent this for common laptops by creating one.
Upgrade from Windows 7 RC to Windows 7 without a clean install!
Posted by Loolykinns Teh P1r473 in Announcements, Exploring Computerism, FUN!, Hacks, Microsoft, OS, Tutorials, Windows on February 1, 2010
So I went to INFOCONNECT and it WAS CRAP!, so I ended up buying my longed loved Windows 7 Pro (I’m supposed to buy it atleast 2 months ago)…

I got shocked and frustrated\sad when I read “I need to clean-install Windows 7 over Windows 7 RC” because I have shit-load of files to back up and softwares to reinstall (Most of’em are those that I can’t really find online)… Poking around Google here and there, I ended up upgrading with a little hack…
I’d like to note that upgrading isn’t a recommended option and Microsoft doesn’t support the idea and they inform you that you will have to clean-install if you want to use Windows 7 over Windows 7 RC (Yes they did, but I forgot about it)… Then again, it’s a hustle to do things all over again (Specially since I have no storage)…
Anyway, if you’re upgrading from Windows 7 RC Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional, here’s what you do:
1) Copy the DVD’s content somewhere… In my case, I copied the content in my 4GB flash drive.
2) Edit the “\sources\cversion.ini” file in the copied folder (My 4GB flash drive in my case) and change the “MinClient” to 7000.0.
3) Go to Start and write “regedit” in the search bar, right click on it and choose “Run as administrator”.
4) Go to “Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion”.
5) Change “EditioinID” to “HomePremium” if you’re installing Home Premium or to “Professional” if you’re going Pro…fesional
(I haven’t tried using “Ultimate” because I don’t own one).
6) Change “ProductName” to “Windows 7 HomePremium” if you’re installing Home Premium or “Windows 7 Professional” if you’re going to install Windows 7 ProstituteImeanprofessional
(I haven’t tried “Ultimate”, but if you can, give it a shot and lemme know if it works).
7) Run “\setup.exe” in the coped folder (4GB flash drive here) and just upgrade normally.
Took me few hours to actually install Windows 7 Professional this way, but things worked like a charm =D
I hope whoever follows this post can write us back a feedback so we can all benefit.
This is how you laugh while programming!!

OK, so I was bored in Starbucks and wanted to waste my time… So I thought of writing a LOLCODE program.

I had hard time successfully writing it to be honest. Leaving the fact that I laughed like an idiot while everyone is looking at me with the “WTF!?” facial expression, the syntax weren’t that clear and the .NET compiler wasn’t that clear.
In any event, here’s the code:
HAI BTW software stars here
I HAS A VAR BTW this declares a variable named “VAR”
VISIBLE “GIMMEH NOM KOUNT!” BTW this prints “GIMMEH NOM KOUNT!” on screen
GIMMEH VAR BTW this waits for input and stores it in VAR
IM IN YR LOOP NERFIN YR VAR TIL SAEM VAR AN 0 BTW loop until VAR == 0 while decreasing VAR
VISIBLE “:onom “! BTW print “nom ” with a bell. the ! is to delete the /n
IM OUTTA YR LOOP BTW done looping
VISIBLE “:):)OH NOES!! NO MOAR NOMS!! OMGWTFBBQ!” BTW show complain that there’s no noms left… Bohoho
KTHXBYE BTW end of software
Compiled code? It’s here… Just extract the files somewhere and run’em (Seems like the .EXE file alone wouldn’t work)
BTW == “//”
VISIBLE == “cout”
GIMMEH == “cin”
KTHXBYE == “return 0;”
You’ll laugh even more when you read the specs
Seriously, I couldn’t stop laughing… I hope the guys can improve it more!!
Ubuntu users of kuwait rejoice!
Believe it or not, but it seems that qualitynet, the company that no one seems to like, is hosting an Ubuntu mirror! Yes people, we’ve got our very own ubuntu mirror right here in Kuwait. I’m getting download speeds up to about 3 times faster then the default mirror. It’s currently being updated every four hours and provides the full software repository, distribution releases, and even synchronization for other mirrors (through rsync, naturally). I have newfound respect for Qualtynet
Anyways, to switch to the new repo, you’ll have to edit ’sources.list’ in ‘/etc/apt’. one way to do this is to execute this commands sequence:
sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.backup
sudo cat /etc/apt/sources.list.backup | sed "s/kw.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu.qualitynet.net/g" > /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update
and your done. now enjoy your download speed’s awesomeness. This video might also help.

TOP 8 Free Softwares Except ONE!
Posted by DarkWolf80s in Tutorials on December 14, 2009
I got quite a few of pm’s and requests at work from people asking me what sort of programs I use on a daily basis. It was a tough question but I came down to narrowing the answer to just eight softwares. It’s funny that seven out of eight that I am about to mention are free open source and that only one of them is proprietary (meaning you have to pay for it). Some of them are obvious and you’re probably using it right now (WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING) that it is for FREE! Simply because it is open source. If you don’t know what open source is, here is a wiki.
Here Is My List
1. Firefox

Best damn web browser ever! It’s security and add-ons gives this baby huge powers to allow you to customize the way you surf the web. It’s only downside is that it eats shit load of your memory processor. But there is a simple fix for it by ticking off some of web browser script that comes in by the default installation.
FireFox DL
2. OpenOffice

I’ve been using Microsoft Office for the longest time and OpenOffice allowed me to make a huge leap from Microsoft Office suite. Simply because OpenOffice works just as good as MS Office. If not, better. It has all your office needs such as Word, Powerpoint, Excel Spreadsheet, Access etc. In a nutshell, it does all your typical office stuff that you use everyday. Plus it allows you to save your work file in .doc format so that you can send and receive your documents between work colleagues or friends who use MS office to allow them to view or edit your file.
OpenOffice DL
3. VLC Media Player
![]()
An awesome video/DVD player ever! Hands down! It has all your favorite codecs embedded within the video player to allow you to watch .MKV, .VOB, .OGG, avi, wmv etc… Whatever it is, IT WILL MAKE IT WORK! Plus, It has an amazing video streaming feature that will allow you to watch your favorite TV shows, movies or listen to radio through pod-casting stations. Because there are a lot of community group who air and share their content by streaming it online withing VLC. For example you can watch a TV show like Family Guy over a VLC podcasting station. All you have to do is set your podcast program to receive TV feeds and you’re ready to go. Lastly, if you feel like broadcasting yourself or having your very own TV or radio station; VLC can help you accomplish that too.
4. Digsby

An alternative instant messenger program that can handle more than one e-mail and IM clients. It also allows you to manage your social networking pages such as twitter or facebook. Plus, it has a really good customization window to make your messenger client look unique. The only downside to this programs is that it does not have voice chat except for video calls. If your not happy with Digsby you might want to try it’s alternative IM Pidgin
.
5. Vity’s FreeRapid Downloader

Having problems with waiting for Rapidshare or Megaupload to download your file? Did you finally gave up and decided to pay for those popular file web-hosting sites just so you can get your stuff? Well look no further. Freerapid Downloader will help you download just about any file from these popular web-hosting sites and more without you having to pay or wait till it’s your time to download. Only downside to this program is the constant annoying plug-in updates that keeps popping up almost one or two days.
6. Utorrent

An excellent torrent client. light wight. Does the job perfectly. Enough said.
7. 7zip
![]()
Just like your popular file decompressing programs such as Winrar or Winzip, this open source windows utility is great for manipulating file archives. It also fully supports both packing and unpacking file formats such as 7z, RAR, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR and more.
7zip DL
8. Photoshop

There has never been a day that I don’t use this program. I always use it for complex projects or just editing simple web images. I also tried it’s alternative open source GIMP.

GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Project and it is a great open source image editing software that mimics a lot of Photoshop functionality. In my experience I would have to say that GIMP leans a lot more towards Photoshop Elements which is lite version of the original Photoshop software. However, that does not mean that GIMP is weak. If you’re in the web designing business or any still image projects such as photography, painting, photomanipulation or anything that is required for viewing on screen; GIMP will do the job perfectly. However, if you’re going to use GIMP for major print/studio production. Forget it and stick to Photoshop. Because Photoshop has it all.
Photoshop DL (30 days trial).
Hope you all enjoy this. If you know other helpful opensource software that has compatibility for Mac OSX, Windows and Linux. Please do share.
Cheers

Yup. No joke and these online softwares have been around for quite sometime but I highly doubt it that nobody has even heard of them. This is how it works. You basically grab your camera (any camera including phones), snap a photo like a newspaper article (but make sure that you snapped it properly with no blurs) and upload it away to any of the following sites. Online OCR, ABBY FineReader Online, ABBY Free OCR and OCR Terminal.
So who can benefit from this? Everybody. University students can finally copy and edit their notes to the updated changes according to their professor lectures. Business people can easily change their own document for a new reprint if they forgot the original document back in their office. The possibility are only limited ones imagination as to how use this service. I haven’t tired it out myself. Give it a shot and post your results.

Don’t you hate it when your Ethernet Plug breaks and it becomes so loosy?
Well, this guy came up with a great remedy that will fix it for a while till you actually grab a crimping tool and make another plug.

All you need is a sharp knife (Watch it kids!), cutting pliers and two cable ties…
Hack that tosh tutorial!!

I call it that…
Anyway, It’s Lifehacker’s Hackintosh tutorial which explains how to install hackintosh Snow Leopard…
I wouldn’t bother doing so yet (I might in some near future when I buy some kick-ass computer) just to take it for a spin, but some might actually enjoy it…

looking under the hood of your programs, literally!
it’s common knowledge that high programming languages are different from one another. some are object-oriented while others require VMs. one way these languages differ is how “low” a particular language is to assembly. for those of you who don’t know what assembly is, i’ll put it this way: if you want fast software, you won’t find anything better then assembly. the general rule is that the closer a language is to assembly, the faster it’ll run.
Now, after this nice intro, i’ll get down to business. take a look at the overly simple-code bellow:
int main(){
int i = 0;
i+=1;
return i;
}
you won’t find anything special other than the fact that the a preschooler could have written it. the real fun starts next: assuming you have gcc and gdb, go ahead and compile the source. then start the gdb:
gcc code.c -o code.bin gdb code.bin
for the other 90% (windows users) : as far as i know, gcc is included with bloodshed dev-C++, the question is whether gdb is included or not. if anyone knows anything, leave a comment.
once running gdb, simply type disas main, and the compiled code will be shown in assembly:
(gdb) disas main Dump of assembler code for function main: 0x0000000000400448 : push %rbp 0x0000000000400449 : mov %rsp,%rbp 0x000000000040044c : movl $0x0,-0x4(%rbp) 0x0000000000400453 : addl $0x1,-0x4(%rbp) 0x0000000000400457 : mov -0x4(%rbp),%eax 0x000000000040045a : leaveq 0x000000000040045b : retq End of assembler dump.
If anything, this proves that c is fast. but more importantly, it shows how the program is compiled, and therefore, can be compared with other compilable languages to reliably determine execution speed instead of relying on unreliable benchmarking tools.
by the way, i stumbled on this little gem by accident, and I’m glad that i did. now i have proof that C rules
