Windows 7 boot screen…

|

THIS IS NOT AN OS FIGHT THINGY… ITS A WINDOWS THINGY ONLY… PICK UP THE OS FIGHT ELSEWHERE PLEASE

I passed Engadget while checking my RSS feeds, then saw this and thought of giving it a shot…

I know I’m becoming obsessed about Microsoft Windows 7 (Why wouldn’t I anyway?)… But hey, atleast they got it right this time (Thats what I think considering the facts I’ve read and demonstrations I saw)…

Let’s just say the system boots in 20 seconds… Yes, Mac OSX and Linux can do it faster but lets not forget that Windows loads a crapload of services and its still in pre-beta stage (Though they’re probably gonna release the Beta version at January 2009… I read that somewhere which its not a confirmed fact yet)…

It looks pretty and Vista-ish… I was hoping that they’d change that loading bar below though… (NOTE TO MAC AND LINUX FANBOYS: PLEASE DON’T DO THE “THEY STOLE IT FROM MAC\LINUX” THINGY… I HEAR THIS ALOT SO FIND ANOTHER THING [and be creative]… PLEASE)

I’ll leave the video below and the link to Engadget here.

Face recognition is not enough to identify the user!?

|

I really laughed at how they bypassed such thing…

According to the Vietnamese Internetwork Security Center BKIS, they were able to bypass the face recognition authentication thingy with a funny method.

To summerize the whole thing (ofcourse I’ll provide the source link), it’ll be something like this:

1- Log in with your face picture
2- Talk to someone (who wants to steal your authentication) over MSN Messenger or whatever and open your webcam to him\her\it
3- That someone will take a picture of you using your webcam
4- That someone will print that picture and use it as your face to log in

As simple and funny as that :P… Even though it might be harder to actually fill in their place with such thing, but I really laughed at the picture above… Reminds me of Team Fortress 2’s spy :P

That feature is provided in some Lenovo, Toshiba and Asus laptops…

Apple is recommending the use of Anti-Virus!! (UPDATED OLD NEWS)

|

I knew this day would come… Now, Mac users can’t say “Mac OSX is virus free”…

According to AppleInsider, Apple recommends using VirusBarrier, McAfee and Symantic Norton softwares to protect the user… Seems like the “Get a Mac” ad about being more secured than Windows will fade :P…

This might not be an important call to start using anti-viruses for Mac, but it’s a call to warn Mac users that the poopism is coming…

Well, this should stop most of Kuwaiti Mac fan wannabies from saying “Mac is hackless… Mac can’t get infected” thing… It’s true its much less vulnerable than Windows… But won’t be for long…

I’ll just laugh my ass off when I see someone bringing his Mac to “DIGITS” in Kuwait (Marina Mall) because he\she\it got infected with a virus and the people in there wouldn’t know how to cure it :P

And according to Gizmodo, Mac only updated an old news… Which is like “We told you a year ago to get yourself an anti-virus and we’re saying it again just to remind you… So you wouldn’t say (You didn’t tell us)” :P… more or less :P… j/k

Here’s the new picture of what Mac update and Mac’s old news…

And here’s Mac’s “HT2550″ which, for some reason, the article isn’t there (But it’s there when I googled it… You can google “HT2550″ and see the first result, click on it and its “We can’t find the article you’re looking for.” thing…

Bottom line:
Apple just freeked out everyone with a little update to their old thing (It feels weird to ROFL over 1-year-old news)… Thanks blasha for pointing at the Gizmodo link, which in a way or another, proved that they’ve been telling you guys to get the anti-viruses a year ago (Though you wouldn’t need it… Yet)

U.S Military base in Afghanistan is %75 virused!?

|

Seems like the quote “All your base are belong to us” really applies here :P

I just hope it’s not a n00B skiddie (script kiddie) who did this outta curious boredom :P…

It’s not like we’re having it easy in here y’know, our systems here in Kuwait (Government related systems and networks) are usually hacked by such kids and hackers wannabies (As they usually refer to themselves “Hackarz”… Hackarz… Hehehehe) so we’re not a state to laugh at them or anyone… yet it still makes me laugh :P

Now I started to have images in my head when a soldier uses a computer and a sign like “1 0wn j00!” appears then he shoots off the monitor :P

PS360 Controller!!!!!

|

For those who just switched from Xbox360 to PS3

I know [Ben Heck] from his PS3 and Xbox360 mods (Xbox360 and PS3 Laptops) and other stuff… But I never thought he’d come up with something like this… He stuffed a PS3 Dual-Shock 3 controller guts into Xbox360 body… (It’s a good way to freek people out with the “How’s he playing PS3 with Xbox360 controller?” thingie :P)

I, myself, have issues when switching from Xbox360 controllers to PS3 controllers (and vise-versa)… I have 5~15 minutes to adjust…

Charge your USB-based devices from your unused VGA output!!

|

I wouldn’t try this since I’m not sure its quite safe to do so… But this is an original hack…

[gmgfarrand] made this hack since he needed a USB thingy to charge his USB-base gadget… So instead of leaving the VGA output useless, he just hacked this little thing to make use of the output by leeching power from the VGA output…

I’m not quite sure its safe to do such thing… But hey… It’s a totally new thing :P

Blu-ray on Sega DreamCast!?

|

It’s a PC Case mod… Not a real DreamCast… Sorry :P (Though I would love seeing DreamCast resurruction)

That box holds Sony NEC Blu-ray drive, AMD mini-ITX 780G Chipset, ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics, HDMI output, 4GB RAM and 160GB storage…

Costs $1,045 (285.546KD according to XE)… Not for sale yet…

Loading XBox 360 games in a slot drive!!! (I DON’T KNOW HOW TO SAY THIS!!!)

|

I don’t know how to bring the topic in a proper english… I think I lost my english skills due to this hack…

This might be pointless, but hey, it’ an amazing hack!

[rdc] had hard time making the hard drive signal correctly when a disc is loaded… He had to build a custom circuit for such thing…

Don’t blame browsers for web-based vulnerabilities…

|

Sean Michael Kerner wrote in internetnews that browsers shouldn’t be held responsible for web-based vulnerabilities…

At first, my mind went like “Oh here we go again, blaming other unrelated individuals for such things”… But as I read along, he made some sense…

Most browsers are effected by browsers add-ons (Flash, PDF QuickTime and other add-ons)…

But that doesn’t mean that the browser isn’t fully not responsible, browsers should make some plug-in (or add-on) validation system… Like when Firefox suffered from QuickTime vulnerabilities leaking to Firefox, so they improved their validation thingies…

The same thing should go for IE, Safari, FireFox, Opera, Netscape (if its still alive) and other web browsers… As in, they should improve their valiation methods and actually warn the users when something potentially harmful is cooking…

Intel Core i7 and AMD Phenom II

|

I haven’t mixed two articles in one post (I might did that, but it might be loooong time ago that I forgot when and I’m too lazy to look it up)… So I’ll just do it right now…

Asus just pushed the Intel Core i7 thingy to 5.4GHz… Too much details to cover the hardwares they used for this overclock… Click here to read more about it in COStOmEPC

Nordic Hardware forced AMD Phenom II to do 6GHz… Still too much to cover about the details… Click here to read more about it in COStOmEPC

I don’t really care which bests which… But Wow!! I like the numbers :P
