A new era begins: Figuring out the best environment for me

Everytime I tell a friend of mine about my adventure with my new laptop (Formatting it several times in the first week), they feel like smacking me in the head…

Here’s the thing, I do that because I need to…

So lemme tell you about that little adventure:

I went back home with the (FUCK YEA!!! I HAS LAPTOP) look in my face, turned it on (I literally had to rub it… Gently :P), and POOF!! Windows Vista 64bit Home…

I actually screamed “NOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!!!” when my sisters passed by thinking something wrong happened… And I’m right, Vista is wrong for me… So I had to install Windows 7 (It is something I was really looking forward to use on laptop)…

So I installed it with my tools and everything… I stayed up from 23:00 to 02:00 just downloading my gears and moving my files from here to there…

Went to bed, woke up at 5:00, passed by my friend so we could go to work together, I sat in my desk (More like a station) in 7:00, turned on my laptop (Had to rub it again… Sony demands more than Toshiba which I used to spank :P), I entered my password… WRONG!!!

I TRIED EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PASSWORD I’VE BEEN USING IN THE LAST 7 YEARS!!! THEY’RE ALL WRONG!!!

So what to do? Easy; RECOVERY!!!! Which worked like a charm… Though I had to re-download Windows 7 in my work (Didn’t take much time… 1 Hour only) while recovering the laptop… And when I reached the END of recovery I was like “Wait, I was writing the password correctly, BUT IN ARABIC KEYBOARD!!!”…

How many formats so far? Two… Why? Installing Windows 7 and forgetting my password >.> …

Now I got my stuff back together then I downloaded BackTrack4 Pre since I really wanted to use it, like, centuries ago… Burned the ISO file in a DVD and actually installed it on my laptop… But I didn’t like it much because it lacks hardware support… I mean, the tools there work perfectly, but I can’t use it for normal uses (Ex. Wireless manager didn’t work well)…

So I wanted to remove it… I still have my tools downloaded in my station’s computer, so a recovery then Windows 7 is a quick option… So I did…

“Wait a minute, GRUB is still installed on my MBR!!! FUCK NOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo!!!” I said as the recovery process failed since the system won’t boot because the GRUB was there and the recovery doesn’t handle MBR <,< ... Now it's three... I learned my lesson with installing BackTrack4 Pre (Thank you moe for triggering me to install BackTrack =| ... So I installed my Windows 7 and tools back... Had issues with WinPcap (Since it doesn't support Windows 7, yet)... So I thought of installing it on my 4GB flash memory... Which failed (It demands more capacity... The big baby!!)... So I went on the "Fuck it! I'll just use this laptop for normal uses"... That's what I thought at first... I found my workarounds to get WinPcap work in my laptop even though I'm using Windows 7, my ARP POISONING tool(s) running perfectly in promiscuous mode... Work's boredom got me into wanting to install EVE Online (Yes, I decided to give EVE Online another spin) and as always, there's an issue because Windows 7 is not supported yet, so poking around with DLL files and stuff lead to another format... I poked around with DLLs and system files that lead to this result... Atleast now I know to set things right... Four formats so far... I installed my Windows 7, my tools, my Visual Studio 2008 Express, WinPcap, Microsoft Network Monitor x64 tool (Which is awesome btw), Steam, EVE Online (AND IT WORKED!!)... Now, I'm still not quite comfortable with my laptop... And since my Wireless supports (Win)Pcap, I'm going to poke around more and obviously format few more times... I'm planning on installing xubuntu on my 4GB flash USB thingy or Ubuntu on my laptop (Since Slackware isn't a good choice for me, yet)... Talked long? Well, it's less than what you guys deserve, it's been a god damn while since I last time wrote something (I still need to figure out a way to retrieve my RSS feeds... Which is why I haven't been posting much lately) Now if you excuse me, I'll go jam on [Garbage - Cherry Lips (Go baby go!)]... Don't ask why I'm addicting it now, it's just a funny song for me 😛

  1. lol, what a very interesting story you’ve got there!! I really LMAO! BTW, It isnt that weird cuz I had been through almost in the same process:

ME + PC + Linux Mint wanned to have a simple Linux-Min-PC, the story went like:

I Reinstalled Linux min 7 Gloria 3 times on the same PC, it had some issues, after the 3rd instalation I downloaded the additional needed apps and Gnome games (nibbles, four in a row, …), restarted the PC, Faced a problem(the OS loads sometimes and sometimes doesnt). So i wondered if the same problem would occur in Windows XP; so installed it, (till now reinstalled 4 times). Tried/restarted it couple of times after installing it, after that i concluded that the problem was with the Linux mint CD. So restarted the computer putting the CD in the CD drive, checked for defects, AND VALA … it was defected!! got it out, and flipped it, WOW IT WAS UNBELIEVABLY SCRATCHED!! so I burned another CD and checked for defects and it was safe. so Installed linux mint once more (5th time), when it finished I restarted the pc and realized that I’VE INSTALLED IT ON A 2GB PARTITION!!! leaving 78GB unused!! So i had to reinstall it allover again, making sure to use al the entire HDD (installation No.6) when finished I rebooted and it was OK so then I had to install all the other apps that I installed before!

What a day, it was tiring!

BTW it’s not my PC, it’s my Bro’s, so it’s kay! man I wasted a lot of time on it

  2. Wow what an interesting story to tell your grandchildren.
Btw, you did all that at work? and nobody noticed you weren’t doing any actual work “work”?

  3. lol….If u were talking about anxious nut I think he did it in his room and if ur talking about loolykinns ya I think he did some of it at work and some of it at home….I don’t really know.
loolykinns: why didn’t u ask the guy who worked at the place were u bought ur computer: which windows does this laptop runs?
